JPD Koi Food
JPD was founded in 1819 as an ornamental fish farm – not a newcomer to the industry, but a company that has grown for generations with the breeding and care of koi. As early as the 19th century, JPD fish were of such exceptional quality that they were presented as gifts to the Shogun. In 1964, JPD developed the world's first floating koi food with Swimmy, setting a global standard.
Pharmaceutical know-how
JPD holds a market share of around 90% in the fish medicine sector in Japan. This medical expertise is directly incorporated into feed development. Production is carried out in accordance with GMP standards — ensuring pharmaceutical-grade quality.
Scientific Development
Formulations are developed in collaboration with the National Fisheries University and Mie University. JPD has, among other things, worked on research into antibodies against Koi herpesvirus (KHV-IgY).
The Health Concept
JPD doesn't focus on rapid growth, but on inner health: liver protection, strong bone structure, immune booster through β-glucan, yeast cell walls and seaweed extract.

Construction & Materials
- Indestructible GRP construction — Fibre-reinforced plastic instead of simple plastic: virtually indestructible, weather-resistant, and retains its value. Includes pre-fitted pipework as standard for quick installation.
- Winterfest — No fine mechanics, no nozzles, no frost traps. The filter runs smoothly all year round — even at -15°C.
Biological superiority
- A stable ecosystem instead of clinical purity — Drum and fleece filters remove organic debris so radically that they deprive heterotrophic bacteria of their food source. The multi-chamber filter deliberately promotes a diverse biocenosis of autotrophic and heterotrophic bacteria – with significantly higher buffering capacity during peak loads.
- The Japan mat as a bioreactor — The three-dimensional fibre network allows for depth colonisation: bacteria grow within the fibres, protected from hydraulic abrasion. Oxygen gradients form within the mats, enabling simultaneous nitrification and denitrification – nitrate is actively broken down.
- Resilience in Medication Administration The robust biomass on Japanese mats tolerates treatments with salt or medication significantly better than the fragile biology behind a drum filter. The brush filter can also partially adsorb heavy metals and toxins, thus protecting the main biological stage.
Resilience
- No electronics, no sources of error — No sensor, no motor, no control board. In the event of a power failure, the bacterial cultures survive for hours in the damp environment of the Japanese mats. As soon as the power returns, the filter immediately continues to operate – with no manual fault acknowledgement required.
- Planned maintenance instead of emergency call-out Drum filters often fail unexpectedly. The multi-chamber filter is serviced according to plan: open gate valve, drain dirty water, done. About 15-20 minutes per week.

- No running costs No fleece rolls, no rinse pump, no high-pressure water. Drum filters incur annual operating costs of €250–€350, fleece filters up to €1,000 – multi-chamber filters practically zero.
