Anyone who wants to care for their koi optimally needs above all high-quality food that suits the fish and the respective season.
However, even with very good koi food, it all depends on correct feeding.
Crucial is the interplay of:
→ to the right food
→ the correct amount of feed
→ the feeding frequency
→ to the current water temperature
→ stable water quality and filtration
and the behaviour of your koi
Especially at feeding time, it is worth taking a close look:
Do all the koi feed actively?
Does any food remain on the surface?
Has their eating behaviour changed?
Feeding them too much can put unnecessary strain on the water and the filter. On the other hand, feeding them too little or the wrong food can mean that your koi do not receive the nutrition they need.

Algae in the pond?

CLEAR WATER = GOOD POND WATER?
Not necessarily.
A pond can look visually wonderful – and yet important water parameters can fall out of balance.
That is why it is worth looking beyond what you can see when maintaining your pond.
You should know these water parameters:
pH value
It shows whether your pond water is more acidic or alkaline. Above all, it is important that the value remains as stable as possible.
→ carbonate hardness
Carbonate hardness helps to stabilise the pH level. If the KH is too low, the pond water can become more sensitive to changes.
→ GH value
Total hardness provides information on the mineral content of the water and is an important component of a stable pond system.
→ Ammonium/Ammonia & Nitrite
These values provide important indications of how well the biological degradation in the pond and filter is working.
Therefore, especially after heavy rainfall, large water changes or alterations to the pond, it is worth taking a look at the water parameters.
An example:
The pond looks crystal clear – at the same time, the carbonate hardness has dropped significantly. Visually, this is not noticeable at all at first. However, the stability of the water may have already changed.
A beautiful pond starts with stable water.
